Spiritualists follow a set of principles given
from the spirit of the great reformer and Spiritualist, Robert Owen,
via one of Spiritualism's great pioneers, Emma Hardinge Britten
in 1871.
The principles were adopted in amended form at a meeting
of the delegates of the Spiritualists' National Union in 1901. They
had been amended on the advice of the solicitors to the SNU for the
purposes of legal definition in order to facilitate registration.
The principles, as amended in 1901, are known as the Seven Principles.
What follows are three different versions of Spiritualism's principles:
the original form, the 1901 amended form (SNU), and the form created
by the Open Door as a modern interpretation of the English contained
in the Seven Principles. ©
