Youth Lyceum
The ministers, community members, and Lyceum leader of the Open Door Spiritualist Sanctuary are thrilled to offer a Lyceum to young people. As Andrew Jackson Davies stated “…...a child is the repository of infinite possibilities”.
Young people (5 years to teens) are welcome to attend the Youth Lyceum at the Open Door Spiritualist Sanctuary.
Lyceum vision: Youth have the potential for infinite possibilities as they discover and choose in their unfolding destiny.
Lyceum mission: To co-create a harmonious community with youth so their minds can be open and free, their hearts can express, and their bodies can be healthy as unique individuals and citizens as they explore Spiritualism.
The purpose of the Lyceum is to guide youth to explore aspects of themselves, values of being a healthy member of community, and Spiritualism.
Activities such as discussion, story telling, creative expression, music appreciation, movement, healthy snack time, and play are offered as ways for youth to explore, discover, and make choices for themselves as unique individuals and members of community. Spiritualism is a religion of conviction not conversion. Therefore young people are introduced to aspects of Spiritualism and encouraged to have discussions with their parents as part of their exploration.
Lyceum sessions are facilitated within a caring, harmonious, fun loving space that encourages mutual respect and understanding of boys and girls of all ages who wish to learn together. Youth are invited to attend sessions and then decide if they wish to continue.
The first Lyceum session commenced October 24, 2010. Sessions will be held once or twice a month, depending on the interest and availability of the youth. Lyceum members attend the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service with their parents or caregiver. During the service they accompany the Lyceum leader to the lower hall for their session. They return to join the congregation for the remainder of the service.
